For the second time in a week, members of the Spring Valley senior community have been displaced by fire.

Just this past Sunday, close to 100 people were evacuated from their homes after a fire at the Surrey Carlton Apartments.

On Wednesday, another fire broke out at the Harvest House senior living apartments at 14 Union Road in Spring Valley.

Fire officials reported that flames erupted around 2 p.m. in a second-floor apartment of the four-story building.

Eight fire departments from around Rockland County were called in to assist in extinguishing the flames and evacuating residents.

At least two residents and police officers were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, while two firefighters were checked at the scene for injuries but were cleared.

Spring Valley town officials say about 60 people were displaced. Approximately 30 are staying at an emergency shelter set up by the Red Cross at the Louis Kurtz Civic Center on North Main Street.

The Red Cross had set up at the Civic Center on Monday for those affected by Sunday's fire, so they barely finished breaking down before having to set up there again.

There is no word yet on the exact cause of this latest apartment building fire or when people may be able to get back homes.

This is the third apartment fire in Spring Valley this month. On Feb. 3, a Spring Valley man saved an 8-month-old baby during a fire at an apartment building on West Eckerson Road.
