‘Another life lost to senseless violence’: Man shot in Mount Vernon

A city spokesman confirms the 20-year-old victim was shot on South 8th Avenue, between First and Second Street.

 A man was fatally shot in Mount Vernon around 10 p.m. last night.
Police confirm that the 18-year-old victim was shot on South 8 Avenue, between First and Second Street.
He was pronounced dead at 3:30 a.m. at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.
Neighbors say gunshots rang after 10 p.m.
"I was watching TV and heard some noise, some shots, sounded like it was firecrackers,” says Anderson Apple-White, of Mount Vernon. "Then the cops came and people started running down the street.” 
A memorial has been set up as family and friends pay their respects to the victim.
In a social media post, Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard wrote “Another life lost to senseless violence. Pray for our youth and the family. My Heart and spirit ache.”
This is at least the fifth fatal shooting in Mount Vernon since March.
