An advocacy group has filed a formal complaint against a Hastings-On-Hudson real estate agency over allegations of racial discrimination.
The National Fair Housing Alliance claims agents at the Peter J. Riolo Agency have been steering clients to certain homes and away from others based on their race. The undercover investigation, which began in 2004, found agents at the Peter J. Riolo Agency encouraged white clients to look in rivertown areas, like Hastings and Irvington, and dissuaded them from the more racially-diverse place, such as Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.
Riolo says he hasn?t seen a copy of the complaint but says his agency firmly believes in the practices of fair hosing and the code of ethics and abhors any type of discrimination. The Westchester County Human Rights Commission is also investigating the agency.
