School students across the country, including in the Hudson Valley, take part in walk outs in demand for stronger gun control laws.
The group Students Demand Action is calling for students across the country to walk out of class at 12 p.m. today.
The group is reacting to the recent mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas that killed 19 school children and two educators.
On its website, the group says students are walking out of class today because gun violence is the leading cause of death for American children and teens.
"Prior to yesterday’s shooting, there have been at least 77 incidents of gunfire on school grounds, resulting in 14 deaths and 45 injuries nationally. Six of these incidents took place in Texas," the group wrote on their website
"We won’t accept a country where gunfire can ring out at any moment, whether it’s while grocery shopping at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, a party in San Bernardino, or graduations across the country. We deserve more."
