An Airmont couple in Las Vegas when a deadly mass shooting left dozens dead and hundreds injured spoke with News 12 after the incident.

Paul and Blythe Rothstein say they emerged from a three-hour security lockdown and found the Las Vegas strip eerily empty.

"Every corner you would see a police officer with an M-16 and stuff like that," Paul Rothstein told News 12 over the phone. "All the stores were closed. There was absolutely nothing going on."

Throughout the day Monday, most venues had canceled shows, and hotels stepped up security, adding guards and metal detectors to their entrances.

"All we care about are these poor people and what happened to them" Rothstein said. "We were lucky. That's all. So many people weren't lucky."

He went on to say the tragedy reminded him of the terror attack on Sept. 11, 2001.

"I left the city at about 4 or 5 o' clock. I just got in my car," he said. "As soon as I got over the bridge, I just cried. And that is how I felt this morning."
