AG’s office: WC car dealerships didn’t disclose vehicle defect

The state attorney general’s office announced a settlement Friday with more than 100 car dealerships around the state for selling vehicles without telling customers about potentially dangerous defects.
Some of the defects that the vehicles had included unintended acceleration, airbag issues and vehicle fires.
"Consumers deserve to know of any unresolved safety issues before buying a car for themselves or their family," state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a statement.
One of the affected dealerships is Saw Mill Auto Sales in Yonkers. The owner told News 12 that he is doing everything to comply with the attorney general's office.
There are seven other affected dealerships across Westchester and Rockland counties.
As part of the settlements, dealers will now be required to adhere to a strict set of guidelines, which include sending notices to customers who bought a car with a safety issue after Jan. 1 of last year.
Each dealer will also pay a $1,000 penalty to the state of New York.
