A man accused of stealing an SUV in Brooklyn took its rightful owner for a ride on the hood of his own car Friday.
The incident began in front of 1245 Eastern Parkway around 6:30 a.m.
News 12 reporter Katie Lusso witnessed the incident happen when she and her photographer began following the SUV speeding down the road with a man on the hood of the car.
After nearly half a mile, the speeding SUV eventually stopped in front of St. John's Place and Rochester Avenue, and Lusso and her photographer boxed the driver in so he could not take off.
The man on the hood of the car, Brian Ujaque, tells News 12 he saw his car being stolen after he parked to get a cup of coffee.
Ujaque says he ran after his car as the man inside of it drove off.
Ujaque  managed to jump on the hood of his car as it was moving and was taken for a ride for nearly a mile.
He says he called 911 as the driver of his SUV sped up.
The man accused of stealing the car was arrested, and police identified him as Israel Shomer, 34.
Shomer is facing criminal possession of a stolen car and grand theft auto.
