Abandoned dog in Yonkers receives care at shelter
A pit bull mix discovered near the Yonkers mudslide that displaced more than 100 residents is in the care of Yonkers Animal Shelter.
News 12 crews first heard "Mudslide" barking while covering the incident on Walsh Road Wednesday night. Upon returning to the scene Thursday, the news team discovered that the dog was abandoned and had been tied to a swing set at War Memorial Park.
News 12 then called 911, where Yonkers police officers took the malnourished dog to get checked out.
"He was nervous and rightfully so. He was out there for a while," said Officer Matthew Miller, who named the dog. "We went to truck and got him a couple treats. You could see his demeanor changed a little bit, his tail started wagging."
It is unclear how many nights Mudslide spent tied up out in the cold, but he is now in good hands.
If anyone is interested in adopting Mudslide, contact the Yonkers Animal Shelter at 914-375-7387. News 12 reporter CeFaan Kim and his photographer Edwin Cartagena are being credited for saving that dog's life.
