Police say they responded to Sojourner Truth Ulster Landing Park in Kingston Monday just before 6 p.m. for a swimmer in distress.
The 9-year-old had been swimming with her family when she was swept under the water.
Authorities had searched into the night before being called off for darkness.
The search resumed around 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Police say just a few hours later, they located the young victim near where she was reported missing.
Her identity is not being released out of respect for her family.
