65-year old man dies in Carmel Heights fire, 2 children found outside house

Police say Jintu Zheng was able to rush his grandkids, ages 6 and 10, out of a window at 29 Scarsdale Road but was unable to escape the flames himself.

A 65-year-old man died saving his two young grandchildren from a house fire in Lake Carmel Tuesday.
Police say Jintu Zheng was able to rush his grandkids, ages 6 and 10, out of a window at 29 Scarsdale Road but was unable to escape the flames himself. He was later pronounced dead at Putnam Hospital Center.
The children were found outside by first responders. They were taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
The cause of the fire has not been released.
