The body of a Yonkers man was found dead in the Saw Mill River Sunday morning.
A family member told News 12 that William Tunley, 41, was discovered in the river at the Chicken Island daylighting park in downtown Yonkers just after 11 a.m. Sunday morning. Yonkers police confirmed that information.
Investigators say there does not appear to be any sign of foul play, but the Westchester County Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy to try and determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, police are trying to figure out how the man ended up in the Saw Mill River.
A cousin of Tunley says he doesn’t understand why this happened. “He was a great person, great person. He loved everyone,” says John Degree.
Degree says his family doesn't believe that Tunley was trying to hurt himself. "Somehow, sometime around 8, 9, 10 o'clock in the morning, something happened, and he didn't jump. We come here every day."
