4-year-old boy stranded after bus driver mistake
A 4-year-old boy was left stranded in Tuesday?s snowstorm when his bus driver dropped him off at the wrong location.
Jordan, whose last name has been withheld at the request of his mother, is in kindergarten at Dodson School in Yonkers. His after school program was canceled Tuesday due to the inclement weather, and Jordan was accidentally placed on the wrong bus home.
According to Jordan?s mom Janee, Jordan?s misplacement wouldn?t have been all that bad in itself. Janee says what upsets her is what the bus driver did next.
Jordan was dropped off at 100 Riverdale Ave., more than a mile away from his home. That?s where he was discovered by Dane Morris, a Riverdale Avenue resident who took Jordan into the lobby of the building. Morris says he spent the next three hours calling police, the city?s Department of Transportation, and News 12 Westchester.
News 12 Westchester contacted the DOT, who then contacted Janee. Mother and son were reunited, and Janee says she will be eternally grateful to Morris. However, she says she can?t help but think about all the things that could have gone wrong.
Janee was told the bus driver won?t be working in Yonkers any more, but she says she doesn?t want him working anywhere. ?I don?t think anyone should be driving if you don?t care what happened to the kids or if you don?t take responsibility for them,? she says.
A similar incident occurred the same day in New Rochelle, when a school bus driver reportedly left a 14-year-old freshman two miles away from his house. That student was also unharmed.
The Yonkers school district has not returned any of News 12 Westchester?s calls. However, a spokeswoman for the New Rochelle school district says they are addressing the issue.
