A 30-year-old Westchester native died from COVID-19.
Dan Spano, who was born in New Rochelle and relocated to Fairfield County, Connecticut, passed away on April 11 in an ICU.
According to his close friends and business partners, he had no known underlying conditions and was a certified fitness trainer and co-owned a personal training group called Gymguyz with his friends Jimmy Bonavita and Sam Langer.
His friends said he was in self-quarantine for two weeks by himself. On the 14th day, he couldn't breathe and was taken to the hospital and put on a ventilator.
After 23 days battling the virus, including nine days in the ICU, he succumbed to the illness.
His friends say his family got to say goodbye to him via Zoom but he couldn't be with anyone in his final moments.
According to the New York State Department of Health, as of Monday afternoon, over 200 people in their 30s have died from COVID-19. People in their 30s only make up 1.6% of the coronavirus-related deaths.
