3 Ossining schools put on lockout after social media threat
Three Ossining schools went on lockout Thursday afternoon after officials say the district received a threat via social media.
Officials say they received the questionable tweet at around 1 p.m.
Police wouldn't say what the threat on Twitter said or who it came from. As soon as police were notified of the "inappropriate message," they put the elementary, middle and high schools on lockout.
Students were kept inside and no one was allowed to enter the school.
Police were sent to all of the schools and conducted a thorough search to ensure students and staff were safe.
Ossining Police Lt. Kevin Sylvester says they didn't know if the threat was credible, but that they erred on the side of caution.
The lockout was lifted at 2:30 p.m., and school officials said evening activities would go on as scheduled.
