Three Mahopac High School students are more than just friends to a fellow classmate ? they're her guardian angels.
Kasey Horan, 15, was in algebra class a few weeks ago when she had a seizure. Horan became stiff as a board, her face turned blue and she began convulsing. Her eyes also rolled back.
"I don't remember anything actually because I was unconscious," Horan says. "I don't think it could have gotten any worse. It was pretty much a full-blown seizure."
Instinct took over for Nick Messina, Frankie Langella and Chris Tacca. They checked Horan's pulse, summoned the school nurse and began administering CPR while making sure she didn't hurt herself."[They're] very heroic," says school nurse Lynn Karst. "They did a great job and they took CPR here in school. Part of their training is how to handle a seizure.?
A slightly embarrassed Horan is back in school and extremely grateful to the three boys who helped her.
