Two Newburgh children are recovering after being buried under snow by a plow while they were playing in a parking lot.
News 12 has learned that 9-year-old Elijah Martinez and 11-year-old Jason Martinez left home at around 6 p.m. Wednesday. Police say the two started playing in the snow at a parking lot on Kenny Court, just across the street from their family home.
The family says the kids were building an igloo inside of a snow bank when a plow blocked them in. Their parents called police when they didn't return by 11 p.m.
Officers spent hours canvassing the neighborhood with a K9 unit. At around 2 a.m., police saw a shovel close to where some snow had been plowed and heard the boys' faint voices calling for help.
They started digging and found the kids, who were taken to St. Luke's Hospital.
The kids are said to be OK.
