2 charged in slaying of Yonkers cabbie
A 16-year-old boy is charged in the stabbing death of a Yonkers cab driver, police said Saturday.
Daquan Ducan faces a second-degree murder charge in the slaying of Geraldo Gutierrez, 29. Duncan's friend, 16-year-old Adam Aroyyo, is charged with felony hindering prosecution.
Police say a surveillance video recorded Duncan getting into Gutierrez's cab Thursday at his Tuckahoe apartment. Gutierrez drove Duncan to Aroyyo's Yonkers home, where Duncan allegedly stabbed the cabbie four times with a large knife after some sort of altercation.
Police say Gutierrez, who worked for Mexico Car Service Corp. in Yonkers, drove a half-mile before crashing into a utility pole. He died at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.
Gutierrez's mother, Lydia Colon, says her son was working long hours to pay for a new home in the Dominican Republic for his wife, whom he married in December.
"[It's] really sad," says fellow cab driver Fernando Rojas. "He was really nice, friendly to everyone. He never had problems at all."
