Police are searching for the thieves responsible for two separate bank robberies that happened within hours of each other on Thursday.
According to police, two men robbed the Chase Bank on Kimball Avenue in Yonkers, which is just across the street from the Cross County Shopping Center, at about 6 p.m. No weapons were displayed and no one in the bank was hurt. Police say the suspects fled with an undetermined amount of cash.
Yonkers police say it marked the fourth bank robbery in the city since Oct. 15. The Webster Bank on McLean Avenue was robbed at gunpoint, a Chase Bank on Main Street was targeted, and a Citibank was hit just across the street. Arrests have been made in those robberies.
Earlier in the day, the Country Bank on Garth Road in Eastchester was also robbed. Police say a woman was caught on surveillance video passing a note to a teller indicating that she had a gun and demanded money. She also got away with an undetermined amount of cash.
The robberies do not appear to be connected. However, Eastchester police are investigating whether there is any connection between Thursday's robbery and two bank robberies in the Bronx in the past week. Both were committed by a woman at Country Bank branches.
