A total of 18 food and beverage businesses inside the Galleria at Crystal Run are begging the state to allow them to reopen during Phase 3 - when indoor dining is allowed to resume.
Peter Vukelj, the general manager of Sicilian Delight, says they haven't even been able to have curbside pickup or delivery because employees aren't allowed inside.
He also says that it's unclear when businesses like his - nestled within malls - will be allowed to reopen.
"What is the difference being crowded in the park or in the middle of the street, everywhere...like what is the difference between those streets and us in the mall?" he asks.
Ted Portrikus, the president and CEO of the Retail Council of New York, explained to News 12 over the phone that while other restaurants and retail stores have been allowed to reopen, when it comes to malls, "The issues seem to come down to how much fresh air can get into a shopping mall, the ability for large congregate groups to gather, inside shopping malls."
Gov. Andrew Cuomo told a reporter earlier this week his team would look into it, but there's no timeline at this point.
