An underage decoy was sent to various bars recently to see if the establishments would serve alcohol to minors.
Hundreds of locations had an underage decoy pay them a visit as part of “Operation Prevent,” a joint effort between the state Liquor Authority and the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Of the 506 establishments, 141 were cited for illegal sales to minors and 271 people were arrested for attempting to use fake identification.
Three bars in Rockland County were cited for selling to a minor -- The Saloon in Pearl River, Sixty 5 and Karma Rest Bar Lounge, both in Nyack. Nine other businesses were cited as well.
O'Malley's Bar and Restaurant on Main Street in Nyack passed the test, refusing to sell to the agent.
JP Shea, the General Manger of O'Malley's, tells News 12 that it scans every card to make sure it's legitimate
"The laws are in place for everybody safety and I think that is the best way to go about," says Shea.
Licensees charged for selling to minors can face penalties up to $10,000 and repeat offenders will lose their liquor license.
