Westchester Legislator and Majority Leader Catherine Parker declared her run for Rep. Nita Lowey’s 17 Congressional District seat today.
Parker is now the 11 candidate to run for Rep. Nita Lowey’s seat, joining nine Democrats and one Republican.
"A leader in my community, somebody who knows how to get things done, I think is really what we need to see in Washington," says Parker.
She made the announcement at an energy-neutral home in Ossining and shared that her platform will revolve around environmental protections.
"I'm a big fan of the Green New Deal, but the truth of the matter is the Green New Deal is a wonderful mission statement, but we now need the action items," says Parker.
The four-term Westchester legislator sees these energy homes as the future, stating “we need to see a lot more of this type of activity happening in Westchester, in Rockland and New York state."
The new homeowners of the Ossining energy-neutral home appreciate Parker’s goals for the environment but aren’t supporting any congressional candidates at the moment.
"We figured out how to have a very comfortable house to live in our retirement while also doing right by the Earth," says resident Bob Schloss.
The couple believes increased federal regulations are necessary to decrease pricing for others to support the environment with energy-neutral homes.
