The American Eel Research Project in Newburgh is underway.
Over 12,000 glass eels have been counted and relocated with the help of dedicated volunteers.
By monitoring the species, researchers can better understand their local population's health and identify any threats they face.
The project takes place along the Minisceongo Creek in West Haverstraw and the Ferdon Dam on the Sparkill Creek.
