Two New York City police officers from Rockland County are recovering today after being shot while responding to a robbery in the Bronx.
Officer Aliro Pellerano was released from St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx this afternoon and was brought home to Garnerville. Hundreds of police gathered outside the hospital and cheered Pellerano as he was wheeled out to an awaiting van.
The partners were coming off their shift Monday night when they responded to a report of a grocery store robbery on Monday. They approached suspects at a Chinese restaurant. The shooter opened fire from inside the restaurant, and police fired back. Dossi was shot in the arm and back. Pellerano was hit in the arm and chest.
Police have arrested two suspects in the shooting. Jason Polanco, 24, of the Bronx, was captured Tuesday, about 12 hours after the shooting and was charged with attempted murder of a police officer, attempted murder, robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and assault, police said. Joshua Kemp, 28, also of the Bronx, turned up at the hospital with a gunshot wound in his arm, and doctors notified police. He was charged with robbery, grand larceny, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property.
