Today is THE DAY to get outside, someway, somehow, and enjoy the beautiful weather in the Hudson Valley! It is the PICK OF THE WEEK!
Temperatures should normally be at 46 degrees, but we will find temps about 25-30 degrees above average by the afternoon hours. A pleasant southwesterly breeze will help to boost those temps and make the air feel very enjoyable. The one exception will be for those locations right along the Long Island Sound as well as in the higher elevations of the Catskills. The record high for the day is 77 degrees (2016) and while we will be close to it, I think that record will live for another year.
Overnight, scattered clouds move in, which will keep our temperatures trending above average. But we'll also see a system approaching, helping to bring spotty to scattered showers through the day. The shower chance will be on and off but will be more prominent in the evening hours.
As the system's cold front moves through Thursday, temperature will cool down along the way. Showers will move through for the first half of the day, changing briefly over to a wintry mix as the air gets colder. Dry air will be coming along the way as well, trying to shut down the precipitation chances. Bottom line, Thursday will be a colder and more dreary day than the first half of the week and there will be breezy winds picking up.
Looking forward toward the next holiday, which is St. Patrick's Day next Tuesday, it will be a day we WISH we had today's weather! Temps will be cut more than half from today, as highs will be trending into the mid-30s. A breezy wind at times will make it feel even colder sadly. There will be a need to layer up in some winter clothing to go out and about to enjoy the holiday. With shades of green, of course, though.
