Temperatures that felt close to -15 degrees Monday morning made for a dangerous commute.

Even though it was a federal holiday, many people still commuted to work from the Tarrytown train station in the brutal cold.

Wind chills fell almost every hour and plummeted into the negative double digits.

Commuters say they stayed inside until the last possible minute before boarding their trains.

The Tarrytown train station didn't see much ice on the platform, stairs or sidewalk, but experienced intense wind.

Metro-North says trains operated on an extended Saturday schedule due to the holiday.

Drivers were also warned that many roads were coated with black ice and that high winds could make driving hazardous.

Health officials urged people to stay indoors, but anyone that has to go outside should bundle up and wear a hat and gloves since any exposed skin runs the risk of frostbite within 15 minutes.
