The White Plains Business Improvement District (BID) has voiced its opposition of the new homeless drop-in shelter that opened its doors Tuesday night.

Richard Ammirato, executive director of BID, which represents 1,400 businesses in the city, says the Court Street shelter cuts at the heart of the revitalization effort that is underway. The organization went as far as to place an ad in a local newspaper calling the placement of the facility ?inappropriate.?

The 43-bed facility housed 36 men and four women Tuesday night as the temperature dipped below 30 degrees. Westchester County Executive Andy Spano says the county has an obligation to make sure these people don't die on our streets. However, Ammirato says the shelter will drive away people from the business district, especially at night.
