Sen. Charles Schumer says rules are needed to tell commercial and hobby drone users where they can and cannot fly after close calls at the Westchester Airport last summer.
Airport officials say two drones entered Westchester County airspace in July, one coming dangerously close to a plane's flight path.
While the FAA has developed drone privacy and usage guidelines, Sen. Schumer says they have been stuck in the White House's Budget Office awaiting review. He says they need to be released as soon as possible.
"The recent incidents right here in Westchester make it clear that drone use has gone from simply unregulated to potentially deadly," said Sen. Schumer.
In November, there were three reported instances of drones that came close to aircraft by Kennedy and LaGuardia airports.
