A warmup is coming, and for some areas, has already arrived.
Temperatures will be on the cold side overnight in Orange, Putnam, Dutchess and Eastern Ulster counties with a frost advisory in effect. The air will quickly warm up through the Saturday morning hours, allowing the midday to afternoon hours to feel wonderful. The bone-dry air, that has been around for the past several days, allows the temperatures to warm up quickly.
The warming trend will continue into Sunday and beyond. Temperatures will get into the mid-70s in numerous spots during the day. Get out and about for all the fall activities you can squeeze in.
Mother Nature is spoiling us with this weather ahead. Temperatures will trend into the 70s through the early next week and then into the 60s for the second half of the upcoming workweek.
Rain showers are not coming our way anytime soon. Maybe a small chance pops up for Thursday, with a system swinging by. But so far, the chances don't look promising.
FALL FOLIAGE COLORS:
  • Westchester: Low to moderate
  • Rockland: Moderate

TROPICS: There are two systems being monitored by the National Hurricane Center.
Friday afternoon saw potential Tropical Cyclone 15 form in the Western Caribbean Sea. It is not too far from Central America. The system will be traveling westward, where it will strengthen to a tropical storm before it makes landfall in Belize Saturday afternoon. The next name on the list is "Nadine."
The second system is near the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It is unorganized now but will try to become better organized over the weekend. It is moving to the west-northwest and has a 20% chance of development in the next two to seven days.
ASTRO:
Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS (C/2023 A3): Look up toward the western sky around about 45 mins to hour or so after sunset It will be mostly visible with the naked eye but will look better with either binoculars or a telescope. Give your eyes time to adjust to the faint light of the comet. It will look like a "dirty snowball" with its tail pointing away from the horizon and will be near the planet Venus. The comet will be visible into Oct. 21, where each night it will be a little higher in the sky than the previous one as well as looking a little fainter.
October Full Moon: Hunter's Moon - The third of four supermoons this year (August, September, October, November) rose Thursday night. Even though it already peaked, it will still looking very bright Friday night. Look to the southeastern sky after sunset. It will look its brightest at 2:13 a.m. It is named the Hunter's Moon because the full October moon typically signaled to hunters to begin the hunting season and prepare for the colder weather ahead.
