Long Islanders are looking for any way to save some money on gas ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
On Long Island, regular unleaded is averaging $4.97 a gallon, up from $3.06 during Memorial Day weekend 2021.
Membership warehouse clubs are becoming a popular place for drivers looking to save at money for gas.
Ben Preston, of Consumer Reports, says it could be worth it depending how much someone drives and how close the warehouse is.
He says some offer discounts if drivers use the club's branded credit card or if they purchase certain items.
Some shoppers say it can be worth it if you actually need the extra items.
"You have to be a very wise shopper these days, but yes I think it's worth it," says Glen Cove resident Liz Glaviano.
Preston says the biggest savings come from credit card cash back reward programs, which give a percentage of the sale back, not just a few cents off a gallon.
He also recommends using apps like Upside and GasBuddy so people don't drive around wasting gas looking for deals or driving miles to a warehouse club.
New York state will be reducing some of the sales taxes on fuel for the rest of the year starting next month.
It is estimated that the tax holiday will save drivers around 25 cents per gallon.
