Wappinger fire victims identified; son-in-law charged with arson

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office has identified the victims of a tragic house fire in Wappinger as 65-year-old Jo Ann and 63-year-old Paul Hait.

Emergency services were dispatched to 78 Marlorville Road around 6:30 p.m. Sunday following reports of a fire, where they discovered the bodies.

Robert J. Buda, 34, has been arrested. He faces charges of arson.

Buda was arraigned in court and is now held at the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center with bail set at $500,000 cash or $1,000,000 bond.

News 12 has uncovered that Buda is married to the daughter of the deceased.

No further court dates have been announced for Buda at this time.
