House rejects attempt to expel Rep. Santos from office
Santos has not been convicted but is charged in a 23-count federal indictment that accuses him of using donors’ credit cards for thousands of dollars in unauthorized charges.

Rep. George Santos will remain in Congress following a vote by the House of Representatives on whether to expel him.
Under House rules, a two-thirds vote was needed for the expulsion to happen. The vote ended with 179 for expulsion and 213 against expulsion.
The attempt to expel the congressman, who represents parts of Long Island and Queens, came from a group of Republicans, including Rep. Anthony D’Esposito.
Before the vote, Santos pleaded his case to stay in office.
“I must warn my colleagues that voting for expulsion at this point would circumvent the judicial systems right to due process that I am entitled to and decertify the long-held premise that one is presume innocent until proven guilty,” Santos says.
