Monday marked one of the biggest days in the fight to end the coronavirus pandemic as Rockland-based Pfizer's vaccine gets rolled out in parts of Europe.

A 90-year-old woman in England was the first to receive a shot as the United Kingdom begins distributing the Pfizer vaccine.

The first person in the world to get the vaccine has a message for the world.

"I would say go for it. Go for it because it’s free and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened at the moment so do please go for it," says Margaret Keenan, the first UK COVID-19 vaccine recipient.

New documents show the FDA has confirmed Pfizer's vaccine is strongly protective against COVID-19, while noting the most common side effects are headaches, muscle pain and fever.

The federal report also showed that it provided stronger immunity after the first dose than previously believed.

The news comes on the heels of a New York Times report claiming President Donald Trump turned down Pfizer's offer to buy millions of additional doses of the vaccine, delaying the delivery of a second round.

"The administration didn't pass. We contracted with many other companies," says White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

On Thursday, a panel of independent scientists will review the FDA's report and confirm the vaccine is safe to give to Americans.
