Town of Islip Department of Public Works crews were out all day clearing storm drains ahead of Friday night's storm.
Crews removed the debris and cleared the drains to allow the water to flow out.
People who work on Degnon Boulevard say it is helpful, but even clear drains cannot combat how high the water tables are.
“I don’t think the roads drainage can handle the volume of water," says Mike Ferrigno, owner L&L Wholesale Bait.
He says he has spent tens of thousands of dollars to try and mitigate how much flooding his business takes on.
Ferrigno applauded the Town of Islip for being proactive, but says with how high the water tables are it will only help moderately.
