Today marks one
year since the deadly Hanukkah attack in Monsey.
On Dec. 28, 2019, police say Grafton Thomas stabbed five
people at a rabbi's home.
One of those victims died in March. "Violence of any kind is not to be
tolerated. It was a horrific situation. It’s frustrating when you see
somebody come from outside our wonderful county to commit a crime such as
this. We must remember that there's much more that joins us, than
separates us," says Rockland County Executive Ed Day.
Earlier this month a government forensic psychologist found Thomas is unfit to
stand trial. The doctor diagnosed him as a schizophrenic, with severe symptoms.
The U.S. Attorney's office would still like a hearing held to determine whether
further treatment will improve his condition. But his lawyers say he should be
sent to a psychiatric facility.
