With a snowstorm expected to impact the tri-state this weekend, the MTA shared how commuters can prepare for the impacts and what services are available.
When it comes to wet and icy conditions, MTA officials urge commuters to use handrails in stations in trains, not run in the stations and plan ahead.
If areas are predicted to get 8 to 12 inches of snow, that's when commuter services will be reduced. Anything greater than a foot of snow or blizzard conditions can initiate service suspensions or a full shutdown.
In the case of ice, sleet, freezing rain or subzero temperatures, keep an eye on the status of your train's service as it may affect travel. Subways, buses, LIRR and Metro-North, Staten Island Railway, Access-A-Ride, bridges and tunnels can be impacted by snow storms and blizzard.
