Thruway officials are warning drivers to prepare for significant traffic delays due to lane closures on the Tappan Zee Bridge.
The new cashless toll system is being implemented this weekend and will be up and running by early Sunday morning, officials say.
The system had been slated to be installed Friday night, but it was pushed back to Saturday night due to rain in the forecast.
Drivers can pay with an E-ZPass at the new tolls. If they don't have one, their cars will be photographed passing through, and they'll get a bill in the mail.
Crews have recently been installing signs to direct drivers through with minimal delays.
The Thruway Authority has been testing the equipment for the system over the past few weeks. During the changeover, Westchester-bound traffic will be stopped to allow workers to uncover the signs and change the traffic patterns through the toll plaza.
The change will allow for demolition of the old toll booths in Tarrytown, and some lanes will be closed until that work is completed, according to officials.
They say they want traffic running smoothly by the Monday morning rush.
