Be prepared to crack open your wallet and shell out some cash this April. News 12 spoke with Circana's chief retail analyst about the costs associated with Passover and Easter.
"Easter is going to be an interesting one this year. Why? Because as you've heard on the news, the price of eggs has gone up," said Marshal Cohen.
Despite a steady drop in recent weeks, egg uncertainty has some swapping to plastic. Others aren't letting the price push away tradition and plan to dye and hide as usual.
"The decorating kits have remained pretty stable in price. They're running at around three and a half dollars at most of the craft stores," said Cohen.
Eggs aren't the only food items withstanding some price hops. You could be spending more elsewhere depending on the main course you are planning for Easter dinner.
"Hams, a big Easter item, that really is only up 3% over last year," said Cohen.
In addition to stuffing our bellies, stuffing baskets is a holiday tradition and chocolate is common filler. According to Cohen, some of those chocolate pieces have increased in price by about 20%.
If you are looking to dress the family in their Sunday best, different pieces of the outfit are undergoing different pricing swings. While Easter dresses are running $35 or more, the cost of accessories like bonnets, bags and gloves has come down.
For those preparing for Passover, Cohen says much of the meal if holding steady.
"The average meal is running for a family of four at about $70."
So whether the bulk your spending is going to the Seders or to Easter fun, be prepare to shell out a little more this year.
