Dozens of swimmers plunged into the Long Island Sound in Mamaroneck for the inaugural Swim Across America “Freeze Out Cancer” event.
The cold‑water swim brought together cancer survivors, supporters and volunteers united in a shared mission. The event marked a new off‑season initiative for Swim Across America Long Island Sound, which has spent more than three decades supporting cancer research through swimming‑related fundraisers.
Organizers said the winter plunge offers a way for people to stay involved year‑round while building momentum for the organization’s signature open‑water swim events.
The Freeze Out Cancer plunge raised more than $10,000. All proceeds support immunotherapy research at the Swim Across America Laboratory; the research laboratories of Dr. Luis Diaz and the MSK Kids Department of Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center; immunotherapy research and clinical trials at the Swim Across America Laboratory at Weill Cornell Cancer Center; pediatric oncology research at Columbia University Medical Center; and patient services with Cancer Support Team.
