Tuesday’s storm led to serious flooding on Fire Island.
Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine toured Ocean Beach to survey the damage.
He’s calling on Gov. Kathy Hochul to declare a state of emergency, which officials said would help with getting aid from the federal government.
Travis Darienzo, owner of Dockside Brick Oven Pizza & Deli, said there were 5 inches of water inside. Darienzo said they’re probably going to have to redo the floors. The Ocean Beach mayor said this was the worst flooding since Superstorm Sandy.
The Ocean Beach Police chief told News 12 that the ocean met the bay. Dunes were washed away, and many yards and various areas of Ocean Beach were still flooded Thursday. There is a school on Ocean Beach which wasn’t damaged.
