Districts across Westchester County are preparing for another two weeks of school closures.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo extended his order for all schools in the state to remain closed until at least April 15.

On March 18, schools in New York were forced to close for two weeks due to coronavirus concerns.

Students and teachers in Westchester say they are now doing what they can with distance learning.

"It certainly is a challenge," says White Plains School Superintendent Joseph Ricca. "Teachers are stepping up, support staff are stepping up but at the same time, you know, we have to remain flexible and nimble....I make adjustments sort of on the fly."

Districts across the county have already planned and prepared for a longer closure.

The Yonkers school district and local organizations are collaborating to provide childcare services for essential workers.

"We can do something and have a real impact and help families that are actually out there helping all of us and seeing that they have one less thing to worry about," says Mayor Mike Spano.

Public School 16 and Casimir Pulaski School will be providing the services for essential workers.

Yonkers public school students can attend at no fee while others will have to pay $60 a day.

Interested parents in the childcare service are asked to email Dr. Corey Reynolds, Assistant Superintendent, at creynolds@yonkerspublicschools.org.
