Two religious schools in Rockland County were allegedly in session despite the health department's order to close all schools.
Residents called officials to tip them off about the two educational facilities.
"I was informed that they saw children in the school with adults in what appeared to be a classroom setting," says County Executive Ed Day. "That was not supposed to be the case under any circumstance."
Rockland County determined the schools violated the health department's order and issued a $2,000 fine on a religious school on Nelson Road in Monsey and the Central Uta of Monsey in Airmont.
Ramapo police, however, say they didn't notice any sort of teaching going on at Central Uta.
"We saw cars pulling in, kids walk up to the window--they were then given a pink or purple bag with supplies and their lunch to go," says Billy O'Connor of the Ramapo Police Department. "They got in their car and they drove away."
Parents insist their children have not been at Central Uta since schools were ordered to close on March 18.
The Central Uta administrator tells News 12 that the school was not open.
The county executive says the health department and law enforcement responded to complaints by residents. He says a determination was made and it will go to court.
A student says they were at the religious school on Nelson Road for class, according to Rockland County.
News 12 called the school. They had no comment.
