Police are searching for a man who allegedly attempted to abduct a woman along a trail of the Croton Dam Aqueduct early Saturday morning.
According to the New York State Police, the 63-year-old victim was walking along a trail around 8:30 a.m. when a man attacked her from behind and tried to drag her off the path and into the woods. However, two Good Samaritans heard her scream and came to her rescue.
Lt. Dominick Chiumento, of the state police, says the two people were walking ahead of the woman on the trail, but when they heard her cries for help, ran back and grabbed her from the hands of the would-be abductor. The suspect then took off up a hill.
The incident unleashed a massive manhunt for the alleged perpetrator, involving five different agencies, K-9 dogs and a police helicopter. But after five hours of searching for the suspect and showing his sketches to park regulars, police still had no lead and no arrests have been made.
The suspect is described as a white male, 25-35 years old, about 6 feet tall, wearing a white shirt and dark shorts.
Chiumento says the victim was able to bite her attacker on the hand, so police plan to visit local hospitals to see if a man matching the suspect?s description came in to be treated for an injury to the hand.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the state police at 914-769-2600.
