Spring Valley residents are still on edge after the petition to dissolve the village was rejected earlier this month.
"We love our village, that's why we fight for it," says Winsome Wright, a resident. "Spring Valley is a nice place to live. We are a village but operate like a town."
Earlier this month, News 12 learned that petitions were filed with the Spring Valley village clerk’s office seeking to dissolve the village.
Sources say the total number of names that signed range from about 2,600 to 3,000.
"You lose a sense of identity if you sort of identity yourself as a resident of Spring Valley," says Linda Pistolesi, a resident.
It's still unclear who is behind this effort and why.
But Deputy Mayor Joseph Gross says it could be because people believe it could save money.
Gross says the village should do a study first about "what is the gain is and what is the loss of the village."
But some residents say any future attempts to dissolve the village would have big impacts.
"For me, it's about the consequences for development if we don't actually have a village," says Pistolesi. "I appreciate that we have a village police department so I am concerned about what types of services we would lose."
