Sports Rush Preview: High school basketball champions crowned

Sports Rush Preview: High school basketball champions crowned
This was a great weekend for sports as numerous high school basketball champions were crowned at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
The Section 1 Class Double A Championship featured two-time defending champ Mt. Vernon taking on Horace Greeley. Senior Christoph Sauerborn had 20 points and Nick Townsend had 16 points and 13 boards as Greeley captured its first section title in 40 years winning 46-35.
In the Class B Boys Final, second-ranked Valhalla Viking took on top-seeded Hastings Yellow Jackets. 
With just over 18 seconds to play, Vikings down three, Sebastian Pacheco tied the game at 54 with a drive to the basket and foul. Hastings answered as Christian Rotiroti found Liam Hopwood for the bucket and the lead was 2. Valhalla with one last chance, but Pacheco fell down while trying to get the ball up court and Hastings hung on to win its first section title in 21 years, the final 56-54.
In the  Girls Class AA final girls action, top-seeded Ursuline took on Our Lady of Lourdes. Alexa Quirolo had 16 while junior Alexa Mustafaj had a game high 26 as the Koalas win their first title since 2003, 79-52.
