South Orangetown Board of Education member John Savage has resigned amid controversy regarding his social media comments about Charlie Kirk.
The district faced
backlash from families last week due to Savage’s Facebook posts allegedly calling the recently assassinated conservative activist a “Nazi”.
The school board says his resignation is effective Friday at 5 p.m.
The Board of Education president also released a statement on the district’s website. It read in part, “among our District’s core values is the ability to foster an inclusive school environment based upon respect, responsibility, equity and global citizenship.”
