Mount Vernon Mayor Ernie Davis is expected to officially announce whether or not he will run in the November election despite unofficially losing in the Democratic primary.
Sources tell News 12 Westchester that Davis will run on the Conservative and Independence lines. The news comes after a recount last week showed Clinton Young was ahead of Davis in the primary by 376 votes. Young had initially thought Davis would back him for the good of the party. He says no matter what Davis decides, he is moving forward with his campaign.
Davis' possible run at re-election sets up a three-way battle for mayor. GOP candidate Janet Snyder is hoping a three-way race will help her overcome a sizable Democratic enrollment advantage.
Davis says he will make his announcement Tuesday. He says this is the most crucial election for Mount Vernon because the city is at an important crossroads and tough decisions need to be made.
