A heartbreaking incident of domestic violence has shaken the Somers community, leaving 15-year-old Michael Raimondi dead and his younger brother, Matthew, 13, and mother hospitalized.
Fernando Jimenez, 40, has been arrested and charged with murder in the second degree and two counts of attempted murder in the second degree. The tragedy occurred Monday night at a Baldwin Place residence, prompting a 12-hour manhunt that ended with Jimenez's apprehension Tuesday afternoon in Putnam Valley. Jimenez was arraigned Tuesday night and is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 4. He did not enter a plea.
The Somers Schools District expressed profound sadness, stating Michael Raimondi was a 10th grader at Somers High School, while Matthew is an 8th grader at Somers Middle School. The district is coordinating with mental health professionals to provide grief counseling and support.
Schools reopened Wednesday morning after Tuesday's closure, with the community rallying around the affected family.
