If you're thinking about pushing snow into the street as you try to clear your driveway, you may want to think again.

Doing so, could cost you.

As residents continue to dig themselves out after this weekend's massive snowstorm, some may want to take the easier route and push it right back onto the road.

"I think that there's a multitude of reasons as to why that happens. As far as limited parking in Yonkers, to try and maneuver the cars around, the snow kind of gets pushed back and forth a little bit," said Yonkers resident Jamel Lawson Sr.

In the State of New York, it's illegal to push, shovel, or blow snow back onto public streets, highways or bike lanes.

More specifically, in the City of Yonkers, residents could pay a $125 fine. Commercial businesses, like a gas station, could face a $300 fine.

Yonkers Department of Public Works Commissioner, Thomas Meier, says more than 95% of city streets have been plowed multiple times.

However, the main issue his crews are dealing with are those that continue to shovel their snow back onto the roadways.

"We can't keep coming back over and over again to plow that," said Meier.

Officials suggest piling it up onto your yard.
