A study released Tuesday reveals a definite link between first responders at the World Trade Center after the terror attacks and respiratory and other health problems.
The Mount Sinai Medical Center study examined 16,000 workers and volunteers who assisted in rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center. It found seven out of 10 are suffering with lung problems and many complained of breathing problems immediately afterward. A doctor involved with the study says that first responders suffered massive exposure to a range of toxins and will remain at risk for developing diseases for the rest of their lives as a result of their heroism.
Over the years, Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) was able to secure millions of dollars for the study. Now she says the study shows the need to press the case for benefits. Clinton says the federal government has not done enough to help pay medical bills for those suffering ailments after 9/11.
