Settlement reached in Rye Brook, Port Chester fire services contract
A settlement has been reached in the shared fire services contract controversy between Rye Brook and Port Chester.
Under a 2013 agreement, Rye Brook was supposed to pay Port Chester for one of its firefighters to cover the overnight shift at the Rye Brook Fire house. The deal fell apart when Port Chester laid off its eight paid firefighters last year in favor of an all-volunteer fire department. Rye Brook sued Port Chester for violating the contract.
Under the terms of the settlement, the $1 million fee that Rye Brook currently pays Port Chester for fire services will be reduced by half over the next two years.
Port Chester's mayor says there will be no property tax increase as a result of the settlement.
The agreement must be signed by a judge in order to take effect.
